NVBDC (NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL)

PROGRAM SUMMARY

The NVBDC is the leading private sector nationwide third-party certifying organization for Veterans’ Business Enterprises and is organized at a 501c3 foundation. It is sponsored by member corporations.

The VOSB and SDVOSB certifications are geared toward government contracting, but are not accepted by corporate entities.

A Fasttrack process is available for firms that are certified by the NMDSC (National Minority Supplier Development Council), the WBENC (The Women's Business Enterprise National Council), or the NGLCC (National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce).

The certification process normally lasts approximately 60 days after application submission.

The benefits of certification also include:

  • Extensive corporate outreach. allowing access to corporate purchasing clients, such as Kelloggs, J.P. Morgan/Chase, Microsoft, and many more;
  • Eligibility for regional representation and national recognition;
  • Eligibility to promote your business through use of the NVBDC
  • Business growth allows veteran-owned firms to hire additional veterans; and
  • Extensive networking programs, i.e. conferences, trade fairs, special events and the development of alliances with businesses, veteran’s groups and governmental organizations.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Majority owner must be a Veteran or multiple Veterans.

The majority Veteran owner(s) must prove absolute control of the applicant firm, including management and direction of day-to-day business operations.

The majority Veteran owner(s) show method and manner of acquisition of ownership interest.

The majority Veteran owner(s) have no substantial affiliations with non-veteran owned firms.

DOCUMENTATION

The required documentation is very extensive. The categories include:

  • Proof of US Citizenship and Veteran Status
  • Formation Documents / Governance Information
  • Professional and business license(s) (if applicable)
  • Resumes for all owners, directors and key management positions
  • Financial Documentation - Financial structure, financial statements (P&L and balance sheet) and Federal Income Tax Returns, loan agreements, note(s) payables, security agreement(s), real estate lease(s), as well as a copy of bank signature authorization and proof of capital and/or equity investment by the veteran owner(s)
  • Payroll records
